King of the River Whitewater Race

Come along for a weekend of whitewater paddling at the King of the River race on the King River in Victoria! This is a fun, community-focused event with a race on Sunday, plenty of opportunities to paddle over the weekend and the chance to meet paddlers from around Canberra, NSW and Victoria. The weekend also includes optional kayaking and packraft clinics for anyone wanting to improve their skills with professional coaching.

Dates: Friday 14 August – Sunday 16 August

Trip Plan:
Friday: Drive from Canberra to Wabonga Campground.
Saturday: Paddle the King River recreationally or take part in one of the optional coaching clinics.
Sunday: King of the River race! If racing isn't your thing, you're still very welcome to come along to paddle, cheer everyone on and enjoy the weekend.

Experience Required:
This is not a beginner whitewater trip. Participants should be comfortable paddling Grade II+ whitewater or have previous whitewater experience and ideally have a reliable roll, or at least be on the way to developing one and be comfortable swimming and rescuing in moving water. Costs:
All costs are approximate:

• Fuel: Approximately $60–80 per person, depending on numbers and vehicles (split evenly between the group).
• Camping: $22
• Race entry: $45 (only if you choose to race)
• Optional clinics: Additional cost if you would like to participate in the kayaking or packraft coaching sessions.

What to Bring:

• Full whitewater kit (boat, paddle, helmet, PFD, spraydeck, thermal layers, cag, etc.)
• Camping gear
• Food and water for the weekend
• Warm clothes (it will likely be cold!)
