Come along and climb some high quality granite cracks with me! We'll head to Billy Billy; it's a bit of an adventure even getting out there, but well worthwhile, check it out here: https://www.thecrag.com/en/climbing/australia/gibraltar-peak-and-corin-road-crags/area/510681699. This trip will require some climbing experience and decent fitness.
Skills:
To come on this trip you must be comfortable lead belaying at the very least, but most of the people on the trip will need to be self sufficient trad climbers. Some climbers with little experience with trad will be welcome if we have enough experienced participants.
You also need a decent level of general fitness, the approach is an uphill bush-bash that takes an hour at a good pace.
Transport
We will meet at ANU sport at 7am, aiming to leave by 7:15. I have 4 spaces in my car. We will drive to Corin road and park for the walk in, bash our way up to the crag and get in some good pitches on high quality cracks.
As personal gear you will need:
Hireable from gear store:
Helmet, harness, climbing shoes, belay device (with guide mode, either atc guide or megajul if hiring from gear store) with locking carabiner.
Non-hireable:
Chalk bag (optional), sports tape for crack gloves (optional, recommended), PLENTY of water, lunch, sturdy shoes, hat, sunscreen, plenty of warm layers, it can get cold up there.
Head torch may be advisable, just in case we find ourselves exiting after sunset, though this is not the plan.
The number of people who can come will also depend on the number of trad racks; from the gear store we should have enough for three climbing pairs with one set of wide gear to share.
On signing up please detail your relevant climbing experience, the gear you might bring and whether you can drive.
If we have a few less experienced climbers we can have a small pre-trip meeting on Thursday the 13th, which I will organise if it seems necessary.
Walk from parking on Corin road (-35.50249, 148.91769) to Picnic area of Billy Billy (-35.505553, 148.897196) via the waypoints in the approach section of the Billy Billy page on The Crag. This is where we will regroup to leave at the end of our climbing day, no later than 4:30pm.
